L & C Creations Giveaway! CLOSED

Elegant Impression by LandCCreations on Etsy

With the health care bill in constant debate, the only statement I'm going to make is this: I want everyone to have free health care, but this plan is terrible. Education needs to be free first.

With that said, here's a bit of education on Orbital Myositis. This is an idiopathic inflammation of the extraocular muscles, also described as an autoimmune disease that attacks the ocular muscles leading to paralysis. Translation: a disease where your eye hurts worse than anything you could ever imagine.

LaRae, one of the designers for L & C Creations, first had this pain at the age of 22. It took months before doctors finally diagnosed her with Orbital Myositis. She was initially treated with steroids and recovered, but really she went into remission for 10 years when it came back.

Symptoms included eye pain, double vision, even some vision loss. Steroids would work sometimes, but other treatments soon became a part of La Rae's life. When talking to her about the day to day life, she told me for a long time she suffered, would even feel depressed.

But thanks to wonderful friends, LaRae was encouraged to try jewelry-making. With some practice, she became better. She also partnered with her friend Cyndi to make beautiful jewelry together that friends and family loved.

One day, the two of them decided to start a business together and that is how L & C Creations was born. LaRae and Cyndi get together several times a week to make jewelry together. They also spend countless hours on the internet trying to find high quality and affordable beads.

With their dedication and talent, I have this beautiful necklace.

But of course, LaRae and Cyndi want one of you to enjoy a beautiful piece from L & C Creations as well, so they have offered a giveaway of a $25 gift certificate to be used in their shop!

To Enter:
Visit L & C Creations and tell me your favorite piece.

For a second entry, make a statement about this health care bill. I'm not looking to start a debate. I'd simply like to know your thoughts.

Contest ends December 21, 2009

Contest is open to US and Canadian entries only

Winner will have 48 hours to confirm win.

I am not for this healthcare system...you KNOW it just is going to mean higher taxes for the working man. Seems everyone has their hand in my husband's check and we bring home less and less. I think we are worse off today than we were when we first got married 30 years ago and have nothing to show for it. We can't afford any more gov. 'help'....

Health Care Bill : I understand the need for health care for those who can't afford it but I'm worried about the increase in our taxes. Right now I'm just making ends meet but if my taxes go up I don't think I can pay everything. I'm retired so I have a limited budget.

I also worry that our 'good' doctors will leave this system. We are losing more control all the time.

I think in a country with an over-brimming of resources every single person should have free access to health care. If we did a better job of filtering the resources down it would be absolutely possible. There is no excuse for people dying from the lack of health care in this country.

I wish we could have Universal Single Payer Healthcare simliar to the other industrailized nations. Private insurance companies own the congress so that's not happening. What we need is more transparancy in government. That way people wouldn't complain about taxes because they would see where to money is going.

There are many good things about having a single payer healthcare system. However, people need to realize that in order for this to work some freedoms and services will have to be given up. If we get a government run healthcare system certain services will be more difficult to come by and the wait for them will be longer because of the necessity of cutting costs. Yes, everyone in Canada has access to healthcare, but at last count there are only five MRI machines in all of Canada. So as you can imagine, the wait for a non-emergent outpatient scan can be months. Unfortunately, your cancer may have spread by the time you get a diagnosis. If we want this to work, Americans need to be aware of what they will be forced to give up.

I just wanted to clarify something: Canada has between 200-250 MRI machines, not 5, as Katie mentioned.
It's 5 per million people.
While we do have free health-care here in Canada, we also have long waiting times...and where I live, in NW ONtario, we have a terrible shortage of doctors. Many leave to go to the U.S. and many go to Toronto and other big cities. "Free" never means without cost...there's always a price to pay, somewhere...somehow.

I wish we all had free healthcare. I am a teacher, and I have free state insurance, but my premiums are very high, and I have to pay 20 percent of all bills, so I still can't afford to go to the doctor. I have major health problems that I leave untreated because it is too expensive.

Why can't things that are beneficial to society as a whole just be free, such as education and health care? Wouldn't we benefit in the long run, whether there's a monetary profit or not? Just my thoughts....

I would love to see healthcare be free for everyone... but I do not think that those of use who have good health care now should suffer because of that. I do not think that this plan is right for us as a whole... I think it may benefit some... but would mean a lot of sacrifices for others.

Being Canadian, I can't comment in detail on the current health care bill. However, I am so grateful for the free health care that has always been part of my life. Further, as a social worker, I can't imagine how much harder my clients lives would be without health coverage. I don't know if this is *the* health care bill for the US, but I hope you find one that works soon. You all deserve it.

The current healthcare system is a mess. Other countries subsidize their citizen's healthcare, and you don't have to worry about people not being able to afford their treatment. Our government has to do SOMETHING.

I think the current health care system in the country is a disaster. But it doesn't seem like what is being proposed is any better, just different. I think something needs to be done to control costs and stop the huge yearly increases in health care spending, and if that doesn't happen the country will be in big trouble.

This is BEAUTIFUL

healthcare:
It has to start somewhere, yea it sucks, but honestly...Insurance companies have been running amok for years now, they are the largest contributors of funds to both political parties. Universal health care should be a basic human right, not a privilege for just the wealthy.

I agree though, education should be free, but how can you learn if you are sick?
