Gilt Warehouse Sale introduced me to Anna Beck

Yesterday I went to the Gilt.com warehouse sale hosted in Boston. I dressed appropriately in tight-fitting clothes that would allow me to try on clothes without having to waste time in the fitting room. I only had 2 hours to find amazing deals!

Recently I've been obsessed with jewelry. Ok fine, I guess I've always loved jewelry. However, I've finally mustered up courage to wear what I own and love, to let go of what I doubt I'll wear and to purchase fabulosity.

The jewelry table at the warehouse sale had a flat rate of $20 for everything on the table. I scoured through each box of jewels, many housing broken pieces. Then I saw it. This gorgeous ring.

The ring has an "ancient" appeal. The craftmenship is meticulous and stunning.  I instantly nabbed it for myself and went on my merry way shopping for other goodies at the sale.

When I got home, I did an internet search on Anna Beck. Visiting the website is when I realized I had scored big with my purchase. The least expensive ring I could find on AnnaBeck.com is $135... did I mention I got my ring for $20?

Spring Cleaning Jewelry Giveaway!

WaterHorse studios Wish bracelet giveaway!

I usually do a pretty good job of not wearing my engagement ring to the gym. I don't want it to hurt my finger while lifting or, God-forbid, lose the ring by it falling off. But last week I forgot to leave it at home, and instead of enjoying my work-out, I panicked for about an hour as to whether it was loosening up, falling off, getting scratched, etc.

I hope this isn't a predictor of me as a bridezilla...

Anyway, like many women out there I love my jewelry. I wish it was easy enough to wear jewelry while doing active things. So when Tiffany of Water Horse Studios on etsy, introduced me to her Yoga Wrap bracelets, I was in love.

These bracelets are made from hand-dyed, 100% organic silk ribbon and are dotted with brilliant Bali small, medium and large silver dangles and decorative tubes, which slide to suit your liking. For someone like me with really small wrists, I could adjust the size and tuck in the ends of the ribbon for a perfectly fitted bracelet that doesn't interfere with motion.

Tiffany has been talented in the arts since she was a child, involved in many artistic activities up through  currently earning an MFA degree at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and working as a graphic designer. Though she works mostly with computers, Tiffany's love for fashion and  for creation helped her establish Water Horse Studios.

Tiffany's inspiration mostly comes from the heart. As she says, "the tiniest smallest places inside of us. The whispers, the internal conversations, the sentimental side of life. Outside of myself, I get inspired by poetry, travel, the cultures of the foreign countries I've lived in/traveled to and nature."

Water Horse Studios has something for everyone, but one of Tiffany's most popular items is the Wish Bracelet. "They have a great concept (which is from [Tiffany's] childhood), they are extremely personal gifts. Many people order them for friends or families members that are struggling with illnesses or in the hospital. Some of the stories [Tiffany] gets are heart breaking/warming at the same time. Alexa's Angels Giveaway! CLOSED

So I've been a huge sports fan for most of my life. Born and raised in Boston, it's pretty much automatic that I would become a citizen of Red Sox nation. Now of course I love all of our other teams as well, and I go to as many games as possible.

Lacokine Giveaway!

if it isn't obvious from most of my blog posts, I kind of have an obsession with jewelry. I never did before, but I keep stumbling upon amazing talent and it continues with this Korine necklace from Lacokine.

quietlove Giveaway! CLOSED

If you've been reading my other blog at all, you'll find that I have found love. Actually love found me, and it's making me crazy.

It's exciting, scary, wonderful, time-consuming, fast-paced, amazing... it's so many things tied up in a knot. I don't know what's going on half the time.

Yet in whichever direction the rope twists... in spite of the giant knot that has been created in my life... I am the happiest I've ever been.

We recently had the stock show here in Colorado, and there were cowboys from all over the place presenting their livestock and selling whatever people needed to run a farm. But of course fashion was included.

It's that time of the year when I'm just sick of the cold weather. I'm tired of the darker days. I'm looking forward to warmth and sunshine.

It's funny because I'm not a big fan of being out in the sun. I don't need a tan (or melanoma), but I do love the brightness, the happiness, the yellow.

Blue Room Gems Jewelry Giveaway! CLOSED

There is this scene in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom where everyone is freaking out in the restaurant. The girl is chasing the diamond and Indy is chasing the antidote. The girl sees the diamond and jumps for it, but a bucket of ice falls and obscures the view of the gem.

Now if there wasn't a mob scene in the restaurant, I bet she could have found the diamond, but what's wrong with wearing a piece of ice around one's neck? Nothing... nothing at all.

That's what I get to do with this necklace from Blue Room Gems. It really does look like a piece of ice, and I LOVE wearing it around my neck. Dressed up or down, it's unique and fun!

Jen, the designer behind Blue Room Gems, picked up jewelry making spontaneously... and Jen is a planner so this was something new. She loved jewelry so much but couldn't always afford the quantity of items to match the quality and one day the little voice inside her head said she could make her own.

Jewelry making began as a hobby, an incredible creative outlet. It was the first time Jen ever felt like an artist, and she plans to continue making jewelry until her eyes and hands give out... seriously that's what she said. She officially became a jewelry business owner last summer and has been blessed with some success.

Jen's creations are inspired by beautiful beads. Her goal is to highlight them and make them the focal point of the design. She favor gemstones because mother nature is the ultimate artist! The colors and textures found in natural materials are more stunning than anything man-made.

Olivia Isabella Jewelry Giveaway! CLOSED

When I was a kid, I loved rummaging through my mother's room. She had lots of great stuff that was one-of-a-kind.

Heather used to do the same thing when she was a kid, except with her grand-mother's stuff... all her old jewelry, clothes, hair combs, etc. Heather found vintage items inspiring!

But rather than re-create those items, Heather decided to add a modern twist. It was that modern twist that got me looking through her shop, Olivia and Isabella Jewelry Boutique, and falling in love with everything... especially this Vivienne necklace.

Heather comes from an artistic family and has always loved crafting, but it was only a year ago that she started making jewelry. Odds necklace CLOSED

I was watching "I love the 80s" on Vh1 and they talked about the Rubik's cube. I had one, and I hated it. I could never figure it out, so I would take all the stickers off and put them back on as if I solved the puzzle.

Now that I'm a bit older, a lot more intelligent and a nail-biter who can't remove any stickers off of any surface anymore... I have a greater appreciation for the Rubik's cube. I have yet to touch one though, but I bet if I read the directions I could figure it out.

This necklace from Odds reminds me of a Rubik's cube... well one side of it. It's modern and stylish and a lot easier to solve if you ask me.

Jessie, the designer behind Odds, has been making jewelry for friends and family since childhood. But it was only three years ago that she thought of making it more of a career. She currently works in the corporate world, but definitely has put her free time to good use in the jewelry world.

Jessie finds inspiration in modern design in every element of life. She recently took a trip to India to do a 5 month apprenticeship with a goldsmith and plans to incorporate some of her newly gained knowledge into future pieces and collections.

I happen to be of Indian origin, so I cannot wait to see the fresh new look at traditionally Indian shapes and designs that Jessie plans to show us in the coming year.

For now, let's go slightly retro and talk about the 80s. Or rather, let's give one of you the necklace pictured above!

Pacific Jewelry Designs Giveaway! CLOSED

I was asked to give a presentation this month on a patient of ours who passed away from the Swine Flu. It's nerve-wracking to give this type of presentation for doctors as the conference can turn into a wicked blame game amongst physicians.

Not only did I want to present the information well, but I wanted to look and feel confident and calm. I don't know how many of you have heard about color symbolism, but each color can represent many qualities. I didn't realize how many until I looked them up.

For my presentation I choose a professional, gray dress that I bought a couple months ago from Banana Republic. It was perfect for the presentation, but definitely required some accessories. I chose simple silver earrings, but needed a great necklace... One that would be tranquil and conservative and show confidence as well.

This beach glass necklace from Pacific Jewelry Designs was perfect for the occasion. Not only did it go well with my outfit, but it definitely calmed my nerves every time I looked in the mirror. The presentation went well and we all learned how to be better physicians.

Paula had been designing jewelry for several years. She began simply by making jewelry for herself. Being an artist for several years, inspirations for her designs come from many places. Sometimes it is the beads, mother nature, COLORS, or really anything.

Melissa Woods Jewelry Hanger Giveaway! CLOSED

with my obsession with necklaces, every single one of these hooks would be occupied!

I think my love for jewelry came from my mother. She has an obsession with gold and very unique hand-made items. She'll pretty much ONLY buy jewelry from India. Her collection is so large that she has one of those boxes in the vault at our local bank. The big box.

As I explore designers and find fun and unique jewelry, I'm finding that my collection is growing at an exponential rate. I didn't know where to store everything as I like to SEE my jewelry at all times. I can't just open a box and rummage through.

So when I came across Melissa Woods shop, I fell in love with her wall-mounted jewelry holders. They're movable to adjust for the occasional chunky necklace and a really fun way to display my collection.

Melissa, the designer, got her first wire making kit at the age of 16. With a few tools and a large imagination, Melissa let the wire flow. Her work is unique with character and elegant twists and turns. She especially loves twisting the wire into spirals, as they're timeless to her.

Melissa recently graduated with an art degree and a background in many forms of art, but her love will always be wire and jewelry making... and one day she may own her very own art store/gallery to display it all.

SStargell Designs Giveaway! CLOSED

Hoops earrings are a classic pair of earrings that will never go out of style. Sometimes they become more popular, other times they're simply a pair on every earring rack.

I've never really been a fan of hoops. I guess it's because they seemed too plain to me. It wasn't until I found these heart stopper earrings from SStargell Designs did I start thinking differently about hoops. I mean... why do hoops have to be circles?

They don't, and you'll find many shapes AND textures for jewelry in Steph's shop.

Steph originally started out as a sculpture major and she progressed from there to a quilter and quilt patten designer, to primitive dolls, to mixed media, to jewelry. She finds inspiration from shapes and textures in nature as many artists do, but she tries to differentiate herself by providing unique and classic designs, excellent customer service, and the ability to collaborate with her buyers on custom designs.
