Creepy Crafts Giveaway! CLOSED

I don't have a costume for halloween this year. Usually I do something slutty because it is of course the one time of the year when it is acceptable. This year I shunned the slut and welcomed the dark fashionista...

I've got a great outfit that would be perfect for all my party invites as long as I added some creepy accessories. I couldn't think of a better place to look than agonysdecay's Creepy Crafts on etsy. Jenny, the designer, makes very cool, very creepy, very fashionable accessories for any dark affair.

She began designing jewelry in her late teens. Initially, she only made jewelry for friends as gifts. Then she began selling on Gothauctions and Gothicauctions and began making jewelry to sell.

Jenny finds inspiration in the darker, more macabre side of life. It is Halloween all year round in her world, and she likes to create pieces that reflect that. If you're having a gothic-style wedding, birthday, or get-together, Jenny can absolutely custom-make pieces for all members of the party! If you are looking to make a large order for your wedding, birthday, or get-together, please give Jenny an ample amount of time before your event. This way she has time to get your spppoooookkkyyys to you on time!

Jenny's designs are unique because they are shared by a limited amount of people... People who see past the mundane, or are curious about the darker side of life. Each item she creates has a song, person, or moment in mind. She has an overwhelming list of things to create but there just isn't enough time in one day!

Jenny custom-made the Gorgeous Spider Lace Ribbon Bracelet Wrist Cuff With GID Spiders that you see in the picture, but she has too many more amazing items available in her shop... and she would love to share them with you.

Jenny has generously offered to give ONE of you $15 Bones (dollars) of merchandise of YOUR CHOICE from her shop!

Jewels Of Eden Giveaway! CLOSED

Sterling Spiral Earrings Faceted Briolettes by JewelsOfEden

I don't often think of rock & roll as classy and elegant, but I find the music to be interesting and the musicians quite fashionable. One of my favorite albums of all time is the downward spiral by nine inch nails.

I get Trent's message. I understand how life spirals continuously, sometimes out of control... sometimes into something beautiful, like these spiral earrings from Jewels of Eden on Etsy.

Eve, the designer for Jewels of Eden, is a self taught jeweler. She is inspired by the way nature contrasts and balances itself, and tries to capture the boldness of nature without making it overpowering.

Eve is currently attending the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland Oregon. She is enrolled in a 6 year dual program which incorporates two 4 year programs together. When she graduates, she will have a doctorate in natural medicine, a master's in science of oriental medicine and an acupuncture license. Since wellness is so important to her, she brings that mindfulness to all the pieces she creates.

Being a doctor, myself, I know medical school can be crazy. If handled well, the student should spiral right into the amazing physician he or she is meant to become. I applaud Eve for her intelligence and talent. I also thank her for her generosity with this giveaway.

Eve would like to offer TWO of you a chance to win items from her shop. One winner with receive a $20 gift certificate, a second winner will receive a $10 gift certificate... and both winners get FREE SHIPPING!

Tursi Art Print Giveaway! CLOSED

The Headless Horseman 8x12 Art Print Acrylic

This may sound off topic, but I swear it's not... how hot is Johnny Depp?

Yes I'm obsessed, but I truly think he is an amazing actor. I love all the characters he plays and he plays them so well!

So I got this headless horseman print from Tursi Art... and I, of course, remember how hot Johnny Depp was in that movie.
See... I told you I wasn't off topic!

A beautifully done print by Rose Tursi, she was inspired to read the Legend of Sleepy Hollow and sketch ideas from it after exploring a creepy old graveyard during one of her visits to the area... in the middle of the night... in the dead of winter. EEK!

Rose is an incredibly talented artist who draws inspiration from all over the place. A lot of her style originates from her background in animation. She has watched nearly every animated movie ever made. She also collects childrens' picture books. A lot of her art, 'The Headless Horseman' included, are inspired by mythologies, folk/fairy tales and classics.

Rose has been an artist for what seems like forever. Even as a very small child, she used to get in trouble for doodling all over her school work. Rose loves to draw animals the most of all. She attributes this to a fantastic professor she had in college: Dr. Tina Schmidt. Dr. Schmidt taught 'Animal Life Drawing', but she also had a medical background so she really stressed the importance of understanding the anatomy of the animals we were drawing.

Funny... I have a medical background too. Though mine is the human kind. And while I have you on the medical topic, I encourage you all to come back to my blog in January/February when I will be reviewing another print by Rose... the medical kind.

In the meantime, why not check out Rose's current art on her etsy shop, Tursi Art, because she'd like to give one you a print of your choice up to $10!

To Enter:

Visit Rose's shop on Etsy, Tursi Art, and tell me your favorite print.

Be sure to leave your email in the comment as well for contact.

Think Pink! Jimbo's Jewelry Giveaway! CLOSED

It's breast cancer awareness month, and I can't help but LOVE the pink I see everywhere. I'm currently lounging around in my pink velour hoodie with matching pink velour pants. As if I couldn't have enough pink, I'm also wearing a pink necklace from Jimbo's Jewelry.

It's absolutely lovely and I adore the way it drapes around my neck. I think it's perfect as we honor men and women who have suffered from breast cancer.

I have been very fortunate that nobody in my family has had breast cancer, or cancer in general. As a physician, however, I see it every day in the hospital. I have witnessed the pain of discovering the diagnosis, the drama of deciding what to do, the tears at a sense of loss of femininity.

This month we honor those lost to breast cancer or suffering from the disease.

Jim, of Jimbo's Jewelry, makes a lot of amazing jewelry and has personal experience with breast cancer. His mom is a breast cancer survivor. Getting her annual exam saved her life! She had a double mastectomy at 59 and the reconstructive surgery all at once. Doctors were able to take all the cancer out without chemo or radiation, and she is a healthy 64 year old woman today!

That is just wonderful to hear!

As for jewelry, Jim started about 6 years ago as a therapeutic outlet for creative energy. Friends started asking him to make them items and it has grown from there. Jim
loves working with natural stones and handmade items (beads). He also LOVES to re-purpose old jewelery and beads....the ultimate recycling effort!

Jim is his own inspiration. He love colors of nature and has to "feel" the colors and materials in order to create an item. He lets them "speak" to him...the rest is easy!

Jim's handmade items are one of a kind, based on the availability of materials and his own imagination. No two pieces are exactly alike, and he prides himself on new and innovative uses for materials. He also has vintage collectibles in addition to jewelry.

Now it's your turn to own a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry. Be it something pink for breast cancer awareness or something else unique, it's your choice of any item up to $20 from Jimbo's Jewlery on Etsy. Shipping is not included.

To Enter: leave a comment for each entry with an EMAIL contact!

1. What would you get up to $20 from Jimbo's Jewelry?
2. How has breast cancer affected your life?

Can't wait to win? Jim is offering 10% off for Roxy Shops readers! Message him that you found him through this blog.

Contest ends Nov 2nd

Winner will have 48 hours to confirm win.

International entries welcome! Again, shipping NOT included.

Love Handle Bags Halloween Giveaway! CLOSED

Pumpkin Treatz bag

Halloween is my favorite holiday. I didn't care about the costumes. I only cared about candy. And let me tell you the progression of my trick-or-treating experience.

I lived in a pretty spread-out suburb. Trick-or-treating required a car and cardiovascular endurance. My mom would drive us kids around the neighborhoods. We would run in and out of every home. It was cold, often wet, and really could be miserable.

The thing that could make or break the trick-or-treating experience was the bag I used to collect candy. I started out with plastic, like probably many kids. As the bag got heavier, the handles started stretching and eventually ripping. I smartened up and went for the pillow case. It was strong and never broke, but the lack of handles eventually wore on my grip.

Now years later, Mindy from Love Handle Bags, sends me a cotton bag with handles that is painted with the cutest pumpkin and decorated nicely for Halloween. This is the one time I wish I had a kid to take trick-or-treating. Instead, it's a great bag to hang on the door with treats for neighbors. I live in a high-rise, so there is plenty of traffic outside my door.

Mindy, of Love Handle Bags, loves EVERYTHING about Halloween! She loves all of the creative costumes, handing out treats, watching kids scurry from one house to another, and most of all, the candy!

Mindy has always been a crafty person. As a kid, every year she would enter my crafts in the fair and would always come out with a first place ribbon. Very cool!

Though she doesn't make the bags from her shop herself, Mindy will one day learn to sew them. In the meantime she uses acrylic paint, and on every bag you will find a reused button, adding a unique twist to it.

Currently, Mindy is working on a unique and very cute way to package the bags when mailing them to the buyer, along with a little thank you gift inside! She wants everyone to know that she will be doing some Christmas bags soon, and anyone who reads this post and checks out her site which is www.lovehandlebags.etsy.com will recieve 10% off of every purchase!!!

Just message her that you found her on RoxyShops.

But if you love this Halloween bag and would like it for yourself, you have the chance to win it!

You have two chances to WIN!! Post one comment for each:

1. MANDATORY: Visit Love Handle Bags on Etsy and tell me your favorite item.

2. What do you love about halloween?

Please leave your email in the comments as well!!

Contest Ends October 24th.

Winner will have 24 hours to email me so I can mail you the bag in time for halloween!

Andrea Despot Photography Giveaway! CLOSED

Drinks for Two 5x7 by andreadespot

The photo, Drinks for Two, is what I find to be genius talent. Andrea Despot, the photographer, makes it very clear what the main ingredient of wine is... grapes. I love it. The concept is so simple, yet truly profound.

In addition, the photograph itself is of exceptional quality. The glasses against the black background seem to jump of the photograph. I love that the photo is not glossy as I think the matte shows the lighting better.

Andrea caught the perfect lighting to make this picture astounding. I framed it in a simple black frame and let it jump off my wall.

Andrea has been a photographer for eight years, shooting mostly objects. She loves taking an ordinary thing and making it extraordinary by using exceptional lighting techniques and color to emphasize shape and texture. Isn't that what I was trying to say about the Drinks for Two photo?

Photography started as a hobby but is now Andrea's career. She works as a full-time photographer at a printing company and also does freelance work... eventually wanting to become a full-time photographer at a studio, and maybe even someday own her own business.

Well I think Etsy and her website are a great start. She clearly is talented, and I'm sure she'll take her artisitic vision around the world.

Photgraphy makes Andrea happy. This photo makes me happy. Now, she wants you to be happy. Andrea would like to offer one of you the print of your choice!!

It's been about a month since the passing of Michael Jackson, and I'm still roaring his music on my ipod. His music will forever remain in the mainstream, and tributes will continue until the end of time.

Crimson Peachy Art Giveaway! CLOSED

Orchid Heads - Print of a painting by crimsonpeachyart

Often the symbol of rare and delicate beauty, orchids are one of the most popular flowers. With over 25,000 varieties, you can be sure to find the unique orchid that appeals the most to you.

When I first came across Helen's shop, Crimson Peachy Art, on etsy, I was immediately drawn toward the print of the Orchid Heads. First, purple is my favorite color. I knew exactly where I could hang this print on my walls. Second, I found the print to be absorbing. I couldn't stop staring at it.

I wanted it to brighten my apartment, and it has done just that. In addition, Helen generously send me a second print, In the fall, which complimented my place as well.

Helen loves the feeling of creating an image, whether it be a drawing, in acrylic paint, in collage or digitally. She is inspired by all sorts of things; colours, people, nature, art of past decades, especially the 1950s. She aims to create colorful contemporary images that catch the eye, but as long as the image has a an interesting structure and feel, she is happy.

Helen's goal is to create images that amuse or absorb her customer, and the Orchid Heads print certainly consumed me.

Now Helen would like one of you to feel the same way by offering one of you the print of your choice!
